About Nifco: Nifco is a leading global automotive supplier specializing in plastic fasteners, brackets, and kinematic components. Nifco America supplies to all major automakers that sell cars in the US, as well as dozens of automotive tier suppliers. The Design department is responsible for creating new ideas, expanding Nifco’s product line, and ensuring all parts function correctly for the end customer.
Job Summary: We are looking for a positive, diligent Design Engineer. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of design and engineering of plastic components within a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment. They will be creating new products, researching new technologies, and working with customers to solve problems during vehicle design. This will be a self-motivated and independent individual who is capable of managing multiple projects, as well as leading meetings with both customers and internal teams to ensure targets are met.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Create and manipulate 3D data and solid models.
· Use 2D or 3D data to create part print drawings. Facilitate timely creation and implementation of drawings to production team.
· Utilize CAE (strength and plastic flow) to ensure design meets all functional and manufacturing requirements.
· Provide design support and guidance during development of all responsible parts.
· Pursue business with innovative designs and provide sales support.
· Sketch and create rough models for new product concepts.
· Review current patents and modify designs to comply with patents and/or include new patentable features.
· Work with quality teams to verify that parts are meeting customer requirements and determine countermeasures as needed to improve components.
· Support production plants via local and on-site activity. Visits to other plants (overnight trips) may be required.
· Assist with material selection and interpretation of customer material requirements.
· Make design-related decisions throughout the maturation process.
· Initiate and/or carry out engineering change requests
· Provide customer design support through meetings, hand sketches, drawings, and data transfer.
· Occasional travel offsite to visit customers.
· Participate in product design market research.
· Create and update DFMEAs and Quality sketches; assist with control plans.
· Other duties as specified by Department Manager.
Education: Bachelors of Engineering (BS) and/or relevant experience
Required Experience/Skills:
· 0 to 5 years of previous experience as a Design Engineer.
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
· Strong interpersonal/communication skills to interact effectively with customers and other Nifco personnel.
· Familiarity with CATIA, Solidworks, Creo, or Autodesk Inventor preferred. Other 3D modeling software may be considered as valid experience.
· Willing to travel and work via occasional overnight trips.
· Ability to multitask effectively.
· Work effectively in a team environment.
· Licensed driver with a safe driving record.
Desired Experience/Skills:
· FEA, Moldflow, and other simulation tools.
· Work with DFMEA, control plans, and Quality.
· Drafting experience.
· Understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes like injection molding, metal stamping, and welding.
